Objective

To lay down the procedure for verifying the Stainless steel testing and Quality

Procedure

  • All equipment, its accessories and parts shall be checked for the quality if claimed as SS by the supplier/ manufacturer:
  • Clean the SS surface of equipment /instrument which is to be tested and ensure that it is free from oil & dust.
  • Take Molybdenum electrolyte solution kit. (Kit includes a 9-volt battery and an electrolyte solution bottle).
  • Put one drop of Molybdenum electrolyte solution on the surface to be verified.
  • Pass current (9 volts) on the electrolyte chemical by dipping the negative charge cell end in the electrolyte chemical and positive charge cell end to the stainless steel surface which is free from electrolyte chemical drop, which is to be tested.
  • Observe the color change in the drop/solution after 20-30 seconds of contact time.
  • If color of the surface under electrolyte chemical drop change to pink or reddish and it persists after removing the current source, it indicates that the test material is SS 316.
  • If color of the surface under electrolyte chemical drop change to pink or reddish and disappears immediately after removing the current source, it indicates that the test material is SS 304.
  • Repeat this test for three times (Depending upon the criticality of the equipment and part to be verified).
  • Properly clean the surface after verification.
